How to spot when the market is on the turn! - February 7, 2011 by Harry

Nothing of much interest to report today. No new trades and only moving stops on existing positions. I wasn’t going to post as not much has happened but I read an interesting article over on the money week website which I though might be of some interest to people. If you’re into technical analysis, which I am, then I’m sure you will enjoy it. I’ve posted a comment/question but it has yet to be approved. I asked about stop placement on the short trade that the chart/author suggests.

Anyway you can read the article here.

Hopefully tomorrow will be more eventful, for me at least.

Until next time,

Getting Back Into Some Spread Betting - January 12, 2011 by Harry

Well I’m back after a 13hour drive home yesterday. Still it’s good to be home. What’s not so good is that it’s back to the daily grind today. I guess someone has to pay the bills. It’s taking a while to get back up to speed with work etc so things are a bit slow at the moment.

On the trading front not much has happened since I’ve been gone. I got chance to take a quick look at my positions over the weekend and they seemed to be all doing reasonably well. I checked them again this morning and they have all fallen back. Still not to worry, my stops will take care of any that fall too low, some are showing a sight “locked in” profit, others are showing a slight risk. With not getting back until late last night I’ve had no time to look for new trades. Hopefully I’ll get some time later to take a look.

On a side note I spotted a news report on BBC news about some bloke that is being done for a setting up a Ponzi scheme. In there is says about one couple who invested £1.4 million (Their entire life savings) into the scheme, and now there is only £14,000 left. The thing is if you are going to invest £1.4 million you would think you would do some research into the person that you are giving your money too. I usually make sure I’ve checked out any individual or company that I give any sum of money too. Anyway reading this made me think about when I had a phone call from Alexander Stark from ENEQ trying to get me to invest in Chesapeake Energy Corporation (CHK). I’ve kept my eye on the share price and I have to say it’s currently doing quite well. When he “tipped” me, the share price was around $23 it’s now around$27, so it’s doing alright. It did fall back initially to around $21 but has since rebounded. With hindsight I should’ve placed a small spread bet on it but hey If I had know then what I know not I’d be a millionaire already. All that said I would never give any money to someone who just phones me up, I much prefer to manage my own investments.

Anyway that’s about all for now. Hopefully I will have time to spend spread betting and improving the site. I still need to look into the speed issues that a few people have been having. I’ll try and get this sorted as soon as I can.

Until next time,

An imporant Spread Betting Lesson! - January 5, 2011 by Harry

The markets have been fairly kind to me today. My portfolio is up slightly on the day, but not by a massive amount. I took the opportunity to move some stops yesterday and maybe I’ll have the same chance today. I guess I’ll find out later.

I haven’t made any new trades and I haven’t even looked. With going away tomorrow evening I just don’t have the time to dedicate to looking for new opportunities. I’m not that fussed as I know there will plenty waiting for me when I get back.

This will be my last blog entry until I return next week. I should be back to it next Wednesday hopefully. In the mean time you’ll have to keep yourselves amused over in the forum. Big Al posted an interesting update yesterday about starting to feel impatient. I remember feeling exactly the same about a year ago, although I had yet to make money spread betting. Needless to say it was a bad time for me and I lost a lot of money because I just couldn’t wait. I’m sure Big Al will not make the same mistake.

Anyway that’s all from me for the next week. Hopefully when I’m back I will start to get back into the old routine and will have more time to spend on the site.

One last thing before I go. I’ve posted a new topic on the forum relating to the speed of the site. I would very much appreciate your feedback on this. Take a look and post a reply with your thoughts.

Ok that’s it until 12th Jan. I hope your spread betting goes well while I’m away.

Until next time,

Spread betting in 2011! - January 4, 2011 by Harry

Happy New Year! I hope it’s a great year for you all.

Well with today being my first day back to work and driving to Germany on Friday(Sigh) things are a little hectic and time is tight. Therefore I think it’s fair to say that I won’t be doing much trading over the next few days. Fear not I should be back on Wed 12th so I’ll be back in business then.

Today has been an interesting day for the markets. With the FTSE shooting up around 130pts(as at 16:00) most of my positions rose in sympathy. They could’ve gone higher for my liking but I think that is probably always the case, for longs at least.

To be honest there isn’t much else to tell you at the moment. Boring I know, but hopefully 2011 will full of surprises for me and you. There are several things that I am working on relating to the site and it’s going to be an exciting year. I hope it’s the same for you.

All that said it’s going to be a while before I unleash these surprises on you, but hopefully they will be worth the wait. January is going to be a busy month from a work and personal point of view but I’ll be doing my best to keep things moving forward.

All the best with your trading in 2011.

Until next time,

Spread betting over Christmas - December 29, 2010 by Harry

I hope you all had a good Christmas!

I don’t have much to report today. I’m away so I haven’t been trading today. I’ve just taken a quick look at my positions and it would seem that the day has been fairly kind to me. Most of them are up on the day. No new trades, I don’t have the time at the moment to spend looking for them. I suspect I won’t place any new trades before the new year, I’ll just have to see if I get time over the next few days.

Thanks for all the forum posts over the last few days. Offthelip, you have made some excellent points in your latest forum post and I will try and get some time to answer over the next few days to answer. I need to re-read it and take the time it deserves to answer. One thing to remember is that I am no expert when it comes to spread betting and I am learning new things all the time, so if you are expecting some profound answer you may be disappointed. That said I will do my best to answer(or rather, give my view!) when I have more time, should be in the next few days.

Last day today to enter the where will the FTSE close competition. It’s only a bit of fun so if you want to enter feel free.

Until next time,
